About Elsto
The kennel name Elsto was already in existence before I became involved
with Afghan Hounds even though it didn’t appear on my first two litters
of Afghans. I had worked with other breeds before being captivated
by Afghans so the kennel name was there before the dogs.
Age (pronounced “aw ge” with a hard “g”) Gjetnes (pronounced “Yet
ness”), a young friend and fellow dog fancier, had taken care of a
couple of Afghans, was intrigued by them and suggested we consider
getting an Afghan Hound. The most notable and successful kennel at
the time in Scandinavia was El Khyria and Christine Jernberg became
our initial primary source of information for the breed. After a period
of time and after my own study of the breed, Age and I purchased our
first Afghan from Christine, El Khyria’s K’Call Me What You Want.
We were captivated! And so began my fascination with and love of Afghans
Hounds which, to this day, remains unabated.
Age and my first Afghan litters were co-bred but Age’s eventual move
across Norway to Oslo necessitated a parting of the partnership and
our existing dogs were “divided” between us. Of course, we continue
our friendship and our love of the breed albeit on opposite sides
of the country.
All subsequent breedings at Elsto carried the Elsto prefix and the
generations are described in more detail on the Past Dogs page of
this website. My present dogs carry a thread all the way back to the
original dogs.
My Afghan vision has evolved over the years, from my first Afghan
in 1983 to now, and I have cast my eye in ever widening circles in
order to produce what I consider to be a sound, elegant and properly
moving Afghan Hound.
My visit to Australia resulted in my bringing back a wonderful male,
Aust. Ch. Quom’s Jambalaya N Jazz, and he has proven to be a potent
sire, producing exceptional quality in his litters. Again, I went
overseas, this time to America, and purchased, together with Kristine
Schroder of Khariz Hounds, an exciting young male, Jorogz’ Adorah
Snowtharra, whom I believe will be a very important part of Elsto’s
breeding program. These males, together with the bitches that have
been bred at Elsto, represent my vision for the future.
Please enjoy your visit through my pages.
